Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lawnmower coil, keyswitch, bare wire

Question
I was reading other responses on coils, and when i unplug the ground wire on mine, it works fine. But what do i do about the unplugged ground wire?

Answer
Unplugging the wire is more of a diagnostic thing, to determine whether or not the coil is bad.  For saftey reasons, you want everything to work as it was designed to.  The keyswitch, when turned to the off position, grounds the coil, as well as one of the many saftey switches, as well as a possible bare wire touching the frame.
One thing to be even more careful about, is that if voltage is sent to the coil via the kill wire, it will destroy the coil, so you want to be sure what you are doing.

If you can give me some more details, and some model numbers, I can
be more helpful.
