Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): MTD snow king, drip system, output shaft

Question
Hi, I have a MTD snow king 10hp 29' snow thrower. It will not roll freely when it's running or not running, it does work OK otherwise. I've try adjusting the drive control, but doesn't seem to be the problem. Any ideas?

Answer
Place a block or jack stand under the back of the snow thrower so the wheels are off the ground.  Remove the wheels and try to turn the actual by hand with it in neutral.  Next remove the drive belt in turn the input Pulley to make sure you towards freely and that when it does the axle turns when in gear.  If the input shaft turns freely and the output shaft will not turn even in neutral you'll have to remove the transmission disassemble it and find the problem.  There should be at least a differential under the snow thrower so you can turn.  This could be internal to the transmission or external if you have a disk drive system.  The idea here is to work your way in do everything you can on the outside of the unit first then work your way in to the transmission or drip system.  If the unit worked last time you used it it may just be loosening and lubricating.  Best of luck please contact us if you need additional assistance.
