Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Guide Bar Plate, question pool, happy holiday

Question
Had my 25 year old Poulan 3400 repaired- guide bar plate missing when returned repaired- I questioned it- repairman says "don't need it"- I say that manufacturer sure went to alot of trouble for something not needed. What is the function of the inner and outer guide bar plate?

Answer
Hello Stan:

Sorry for the Delay. This Question was Located in the Question Pool and I can Only Answer Questions from the Question Pool when I am Not Answering Questions here or at the Other Site I Answer Questions at. The Guide Plate is Designed to Prevent Premature Wear on the Saw Body and to Insure the Bar Oil is Directed to the Bar and Not All Over the Saw and they Help to Keep the Chain on the Bar when it Makes the Sharp Loop at the Drive Sprocket. Look at All the Small Areas that are Covered by the Bar Plates and you can See that a Lot of Bar Oil is Lost if these Plates are Not Used. You can Operate the Saw without these Plates, but if you still have them then I Suggest you Use them. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
