Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): cub cadet 1027 reverse wont work, cub cadet 1027, variable speed pulley

Question
just inherited a cub cadet 1027 year 2001.  everything on the unit works fine except when you put it in reverse nothing happens.  is this a known problem?  or where should i start troubleshooting this from?

Check the Idle Pulleys and Brackets. This is a Single Speed Transmission with a Variable Speed Pulley. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://www.emerichsales.com/home.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Now Select the OEM (Cub Cadet) and Enter the Model Numbers (1027). Now Double Click on your Model in the Results Area. Now Select the Drive, Variable File. Hope this Helps.
