Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): small engine repair, honda gx390, throttle linkage

Question
I have Honda,GX390,QA2*,GCAA-3429232 engine. Can you tell me how to set the governor please. I'm not getting full power out of the engine.

Answer
The governor, should be the very last thing you mess with. It almost never goes out of adjustment unless it is played around with. Have you checked everything else? Spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, fuel pump if so equipped, checked if the carb is in need of rebuild? If you do want to go ahead and adjust the governor it goes as follows: Find the governor rod, and lever. Unlock the nut holding the lever to the governor, move the throttle plate linkage on the carb to open the throttle plate fully noticing the direction it was needed to be moved. While holding the governor linkage to the full open position, and opening throttle plate fully move the governor rod going into the engine fully till it stops in the SAME direction you moved the throttle linkage to open the plate fully, re tighten nut with out moving either component. That's it.........Tom
