Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): john deere stx38, crankcase oil, engine crankcase

Question
I need to replace the drive belt for my john deere stx38. I want to stand it up vertically and was wondering if I have to drain the fluids? What about the battery?

It looks like I might have to remove the pto to get the belt on, how can I find the out the torque requirement when I put it back on?

Thanks-John

Answer
Hello John:

If you are Going to Stand this Mower on End, then Remove the Battery, Drain the Gas and Engine Crankcase Oil. If the PTO Uses a 7/16 X 20 Bolt, the Torque is 75 Foot Pounds. If the PTO Bolt is a 1/2 X 20 Bolt, the Torque is 120 Foot Pounds. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine and Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Find. Then Select your Model from the Search Results Area. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please.
