Tips on Buying Cars: Lease End, lease ends, lease company

Question
I turned my car in to dealer on 12/25/08. My lease ends on 2/6/09. The dealer
paid last month and disposition fee. I had made the Jan payment. This would
leave lease paid in full. They are charging me 273.74 for accrued interest from
date of last payment to date of turn in. The dealer made last payment on
1/13/09. I turned in to the dealer on 12/25/08. Can they charge me for this?

Answer
Tracy,

Thanks for your question.  It may not seem like the right thing to do, but yes, you are ultimately responsible for the remaining charges, even if you turned the vehicle in to the dealer on a certain date.  You can call the lease company and plead your case, and present your paperwork with the date on it, but the decision is up to the lender as to whether they help you or not.  More than likely they will.

Hope this helps.

Thanks - JB
