Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): snowblower driveshaft, husqvarna logo, mechanic friend

Question
I have a Husqvarna ST723/7R-23 Snowthower.  Sometimes the snowblower will not move either forward or reverse but will roll- I believe it is getting stuck in neutral.  The clutch selector rod pushes a plastic "tube" into the housing of the unit and it will not slide back out(I'm guessing it's getting stuck) when moving the gear selector into either forward or reverse.  This blower has been in and out of the shop several times and the problem repeated itself.  Apparently the shop said they had tightened something and it has worked a bit since then.  The plastic "tube" slides back and forth over a metal shaft.  The shop said not to spray wd40 or oil on it because it is plastic on metal.  A mechanic friend said try some silicon spray.  The full model number on the machine is: 954200725A the product # is:954200725 it was purchased in Jan of 1999 and really hasn't been used much because of this problem.  The next year the same machine on the sales floor did not have the configuration with this plastic "tube" did I buy a bad design?  Anyway, I would greatly appreciate any insight.

Answer
Hello Jamie:

Replace the Traction Cable. The Shield is Slipping and the Inner Cable is Not Moving the Traction Components. You can View the Husqvarna Model List at this Site Addy, http://www.partstree.com/parts/ and Click on the Husqvarna Logo. Now Select the Snow Thrower File. Now Select your Model (ST 723 1999-10) you Wish to View. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
