Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Gas in Oil Pan, winter operation, wire tie

Question
I have a Simplicity 4 cycle riding mower. It has an Onan 19 horse engine built in 1973. While getting it ready for winter operation I noticed that I had gas in the Oil pan. The mark on the oil stick was over 2 inches of the fill mark. Looking for the cause and cure.
Thanks

Answer
You have an overflowing carburetor this means that the needle is not seating when the float comes up to shut it off.  Remove the carburetor and disassemble it clean all air and fuel passages with a wire from a wire tie and blowout with carburetor or compressed air.  Purchase a new kit from a dealer and install it when reassembling carburetor.  Note carb with new mounting gaskets.  This should take care of your issue.  I hope this information has helped best of luck on your project.
