Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): slipping clutch, disc, belt, something ??, clutch adjustment, clutch disc

Question
I have a snapper Hi-Vac rear-engine mower (28 0r 30in. cut) with handle
bars
and 8hp b.s. engine. When turning to go up a small incline (in 2nd gear) the
mower will not pull. It begins to "slip" or something; the mower simple will
not
move. I can smell something burning. It is somewhat inconsistent in that
sometimes it will pull and other times it will not. Going to higher doesn't
help.
The mower is the standard 5 sp.

I just purchased the mower (used) a few months ago and only started using it
recently. Sorry I don't have the model #.

Answer
Hello Gary:

Without the Model Numbers I can Only Give a Speculated Guess. It will Most likely be the Driven Disc that you Smell. The Clutch is Most likely Out of Adjustment. I Require the Model Numbers to Properly Instruct you How to Adjust it. Depending on the Model will Determine How the Clutch Adjustment is made. Thanks.
