Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Single Cylinder OHV Briggs engines, cam gear, john thanks

John, I have seen multiple post about cherry red exhaust or engines that will not turn over & they remove sprk plg & engine turns over. I seen replies on cleaning carbs & setting valves (these did not resolve). I have worked on 4 with these symptoms & in ea case, it was the cam-gear that had to be replaced. There seems to be an issue with these on the 31000 series. Discussing these issues w/Briggs & they suggested the coil or cam-gear, but we finally went with a cam issue. I replaced 4 cam-gears & all run great w/ no further probs. Thought I might pass this info to help those that have had similar probs

Thanks for the Great Input. I am Sure this Information will Assist Others that Read this Post. The 31000 Series is having a Cam Problem and like you I have Contacted Briggs about this Issue. They Say they are Working on the Issue and they feel the Issue is Corrected Except in a Few or these Engines. Who Really knows for Sure. Thanks Again for the Information. Till Next Time.
