Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): murray tactor electrical issue, safety switches, loose connections

Question
i have model 38500A tractor with B&S L-head 14 horse motor. motor is not original but has run good for pass 3 yrs. i have no electrical contact when trying to start up. replaced battery, solenoid, 1 safety switch and chacked other safety switches, all appear ok. jumped starter works fine. checked fuse ok..can jump light circuit in key awitch plug..they work.what do i need to look for..cannot get anything thru keyswitch.am i grounded somewhere? are maybe broken wire somewhere in circuit?

Answer
My first question would be what happened the last time it worked.  Was it running fine when you put it away and now when you take notes use it you have no power.  If this is the case I would check for loose connections or start testing each safety switch.  Safety switches can come out of alignment so be sure they are getting depressed use a continuity meter to check the switch.

The next question is does your solenoid click?  If it does the problem would be between the solenoid and the starter.  You could also check the start circuit by turning the key on and testing for voltage along circuit.  If voltage goes to ground before your back to the solenoid  thats your problem.

If you have an electric PTO switch the switches are dual pole dual throw meaning the switch as two parallel switches inside a one turns this clutch on and off and the other run works with the safety system to be sure you are in the seat when the clutche is engaged.
