Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere STX38, market switch, correct switch

Question
Hi Tom,

I have a John Deere STX38 with a black mower deck.  Recently the key starter
got so stripped that I had to purchase a new one.  I purchase one off of Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?
ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=230290584049.  It basically
said that it is a new aftermarket starter switch and replaces John Deere
#TCA15075.  Also said, for magneto ignition, 3 position 6 terminal, 13/16
mounting stem.  It said it replaces the John Deere TCA15075 and works with
a bunch of models including the stx38 lawn tractor.  Two things I noticed
different is that it used a real key instead of the little one the tractor came
with and the stem where the key is inserted into is longer.  I had to bore a
slightly bigger hole in the plastic for it to fit and I installed it.  My battery was
dead so I had to just it with my car, but two problems I am having are...
when I switch the key to the off position it is not killing the engine, I have to
either get off the seat or turn the choke all the way down.  The other problem
is that the mower deck is not turning on when I pull up the switch.  I never
had a mower deck issue and think it may be related to the new starter.  The
plug that goes into the mower deck switch seems to have some grease in it
and also there are 2 single plug wires in the wire bundle that goes to the
mower deck switch, both which I tried with the single connector on the
starter switch.  Can't figure out what the problem is.  Please Help.  Thank you
very much for your time, I appreciate it.

Answer
Simple answer, it is related to the ignition switch. The PTO for the blades gets is voltage from the ignition system, and through the switch. never mind trying to save a few bucks with a after market switch, by the correct switch for the correct model. Lesson learned?.......Tom
