Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Low idle, factory spec, plyers

Question
I have a 2005 JD JS20 walk behind mower with a B&S 6.75hp engine. I have continued to lose RPM's and the dealer checked it and said it was to factory spec. Now the speed has dropped so much that it barely has enough power to cut grass. Is there anyway to adjust the RPM up? The dealer said that it was fixed and not adjustable.

Answer
You can adjust the speed on your engine.  Look at the front of the engine, spark plug side.  To the left should be the carburetor.  Above the carburetor you should see the governor spring.  To increase the speed, use a pair of plyers and bend the end of the govern arm out to tighten the governor spring.

Let me know if this helps.
