Motorcycle Repair: Honda GL100 1982, starter solenoid, zero compression

Question
Hello Mark I just found your page and read all the questions...I could not find an answer to my problem. I have a gl 1100 with a starting problem.
I have replaced the starter and solenoid, checked all the connections and still the starter draws so much power ( jump start as well) but will not turn the motoer over. I have had this bike for years and though the starter was a bit slow ( prior to replacement) it always started. If I pop the clutch it runs beautiful no binding or clanking in the starter area. I have had the factory starter tested and it is good so I am in a catch 22 now as to fix the issue?
Is there any way something other then the connections, solenoid or starter itself can keep it from turning?  ( I also tried pulling the plugs and then the thing turns like a top with Zero compression) if that means anything?

Answer
Hi Chuck,

Providing the starter motor is installed properly, I suspect the starter solenoid contacts are burned and causing the problem. This is a common problem with the older GL's.
