Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): stihl 028 av chainsaw, stihl dealer, stihl 028

Question
QUESTION: My husband was given a broken stihl and even though he has repaired many for years this one has him stymied.  Apparently there is a wire off - relating to the kill switch he thinks and can't find where to reattach.  Is there a wiring diagram for these saws
thanx so much

ANSWER: Hello Pat:

Stihl Offers No Online Support and Send Everyone to their Local Stihl Dealer for Parts and Manuals. A Shop Service Manual Usually has the Schematic you are Seeking. On this Saw, there is 1 Wire from the Kill Switch to the Coil/Ign Module that Grounds the Ign Module and Stops the Plug from Firing to Shut Off the Saw. If this Unit is the Older 028, then the Shut Off Wire Grounds the Point Set and Stops the Plug from Firing. What is the Problem with this Saw? The Saw Won't Shut Off when Switch is Positioned to Off? If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

QUESTION: Hi John
I have attached a picture of the greenish wire.  Teddy has not tried to start the saw in case it won't shut off.  There is a black wire on a screw that you can see and just below that is an empty screw.  It appears that the wire comes from the red switch.  Hope the picture is good enough
thank you very much for your help
Pat

Answer
Hello Again Pat:

I Sure wish I could take Pictures as Good as yours. Thanks for the Picture. Remove the Recoil Starter Cover and you should be Able to See the Connection for this Wire. Color Codes Do Not Assist Much. Most OEM's Use the Cheapest Wire they can for their Equipment and the Color Codes are Always Changing. Usually with the Plastic Case Saws, the Kill Switch had 2 Wires. One Wire was to the Engine Block for a Ground and the Other went to the Ign Coil or Point Set to Ground the Ign Coil/Point Set to Stop the Engine from Firing the Plug. I See a Male Spade Connector on the End of the Wire. Once the Recoil Starter Housing is Removed, I Suggest you Look for the Female Connector. The Wire Looks to be Off the Ign Coil. Thanks Again for the Picture. It was a Great Assist to me.  If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.
