Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Removing rusted muffler, ariens snowblower, rusted muffler

Question
I have to replace a rusted out muffler on a 1971 Ariens snowblower with an 8hp
Tecumseh L-head engine (HM80). I am 95 percent sure they will break if I just
put a wrench to it. The muffler sits tight against the engine and you can not even
see the engine end of the bolt. Not really any room to spray penatrating oil on
them. Any ideas on removing the bolts with out breaking them?

Answer
Hello Jerry:

Let the Bolts Break Off. With this Style Muffler you have No Oyer Choice. I SUggest you Start the Engine and Allow it to Run at Full Throttle for 5 Minutes and then Wearing Gloves, Try to Remove the Muffler Mounting Bolts. If the Break and you cannot Use a Cigar Muffler (one that screws into the Exhaust Port); then the Old Bolts will have to be Drilled Out of the Engine Block. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the T. Then Select Tecumseh. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Enter the Model Numbers. Then Select your Model and Download the File for Online Viewing. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
