Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda GX200 Clone, honda gx200, setting valve lash

Question
John,

Thanks for the prior help on this issue.

I reset valve lash to .004" on intake and .006" on exhaust.  Now it is hard to
pull the start cord at first part of the pull.  I rechecked valve lash -- it is
good.  I am setting valve lash at TDC - right?  I am assuming the hard pull is
a valve lash issue, but I am not sure.  It was easy to pull at the prior setting,
but would not start.  Am I missing something here?

Answer
Hello Charles:

If you are Setting the Valve Lash/Clearance with the Engine on TDC, then Try these Clearances; Intake .006in and Exhaust .008in.. These are the Only Other Valve Clearances I have for this Engine. Some of these Engines Use the .004 and .006 and Others Use the .006 and .008 Clearances. If these Clearances Do Not Correct the Problem, then you need to Check the Cam and Check the Condition of the Compression Release Assembly. If the Compression Release Assembly is Broken, then this has to be Replaced with the Cam. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
