Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): stalls with white smoke, crankcase breather, sediment bowl

Question
B&S model 190432 type 153501 code 78081512 serial C-381731 8 HP on a log splitter. Has been setting for two years.I have cleaned tank, sediment bowl and carb, installed new plug, put in fresh gas and oil. Will start and run strong, but then loads up and white smoke kills it. Noticed oil in air cleaner throat after. Is it possible I have bad crankcase breather or stuck oil ring? Tried Marvel Mystery Oil to soak over night......

Answer
Hello Jason:

From your Description it Sounds like 1 of the Following is the Cause of this Problem: 1- The Crankcase Breather is Not Operating Properly. I Suggest you Clean the Crankcase Breather First and then Operate the Engine. If the Crankcase Breather is Not the Problem then the Rings Are Stuck to the Piston and are Not Flexing. 2- The Rings are Stuck and when the Cylinder Expands Away from the Rings, you have Power Loss, White Smoke and the Engine Quits Due to Low Compression and/or Oil Fouling the Plug. I Suggest you Run the Engine Until it Stalls and then Check the Compression. If Lower than 90PSI, then the Rings are Stuck. You can Try Filling the Cylinder with Marvel Mystery Oil Once the Engine has Cooled and Allow it to Set for a Few Days. Its a 50/50 Chance they May Loosen Up and Flex as Designed Once the Engine is Restarted after Soaking the Rings. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine at this Site Addy; http://www.briggsandstratton.com/maint_repair/manual_and_more/doclist.aspx?categ... and Enter the Model Numbers (190432) and the First 4 Type Numbers (1535) in the Appropriate Boxes and Click GO. Then Select Download PDF. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
