Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs & Stratton 3.5hp #091232-1035-E2..000215YA, briggs stratton, adjustment screws

Question
Hi, thanks in advance for your time and effort ! The subject engine is on a North Star 55 gallon tank sprayer. Cold, it starts pretty good, has never ran exactly right, and now after pumping approx. 1/2 tank, it dies and only way can get it restarted is to prime it and as soon as primer is gone it dies until it cools down.. then it will restart... I cannot find a carburetor adjustment screw on this engine. It does not appear to have a float.. but there are a couple of freeze plug looking gizzmo's a diaphram... can you tell me where the adjustment screws are located ? Thank you

Answer
You should clean the fuel system.  Clean the vent in the fuel cap and the tank.  If there is a fuel filter clean or replace it. If there is a screen in the fuel tank clean it by back-flushing it.  Remove the carburetor and take it apart.  Clean all air and fuel passages with a wire from a twist tie.  Blow out with carburetor cleaner or compressed air.  Purchase a carburetor kit and mounting gaskets from a dealer and install all the parts.  The adjustment screws are covered with silicon if you have to puck it out and adjust it.  Replace the silicon. This should help, if not get back to me.
