Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): chainsaw, husqvarna logo, exhaust port

Question
My 262xp/Husqvarna chainsaw is 12 years old and cuts like butter when I can keep it running.  After it heats up about 5 min. it idols down then revs up.   I have changed the spark plug, and cleaned my filters.  What could it be?

Answer
Hello Clayton:

From your Description it Sounds like this Unit Require a Re-Ring. It Takes Approximately 5 Minutes for a Saw Engine to Reach Operating Temperature if Use Constantly. It Sounds like the Rings have Expanded to their Maximum and the Block is Still Expanding Away from the Rings or the Exhaust Port/Muffler May be Restricted. I Suggest you Check the Exhaust Port and Muffler for Restriction from Carbon. If Carbon Builds up in the Exhaust Port or Muffler, the Engine will Run at a Higher Temperature than Designed and the Problem you Described will Occur. If the Exhaust Port and Muffler are Clear, then I Suggest you Operate the Engine Until it Stalls and then Check the Compression while the Saw is Hot. If the Compression is 100PSI or Below with the Saw Hot, then a Re-Ring is Require to Correct this Problem. You can View the Husqvarna Model List at this Site Addy, http://www.partstree.com/parts/ and Click on the Husqvarna Logo. Now Enter the Model Numbers in the Search Box on the Left and Click Go. Now Select the Model of the Equipment you Wish to View. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
