Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh connecting rod replacement, ariens snow blower, wrist pin

Question
I have an H60 Tecumseh, on an Ariens snow blower. Connecting rod blew last winter. I just opened it up and found the bottom end in three pieces. Engine always ran very strong. No oil burned. What's is the proper process to replace the rod, and what other parts should I consider replacing? Thank you.

Answer
Hello Payson:

I Usually Do Not Suggest Rebuilding an Engine when a Connecting Rod Breaks. I Usually Suggest Purchasing a Short Block. Usually when a Connecting Rod Breaks you have to Replace the Connecting Rod, Piston and Wrist Pin and the Crankshaft. These Components have to be Replaced Anytime a Connecting Rod Breaks to Eliminate All the Parts that are Damaged from this Event. When a Connecting Rod Breaks it causes Stress on the Crankshaft, Wrist Pin and Piston. The Wrist Pin Cannot be Replaced without Replacing the Piston. Since this is a Tecumseh Engine, I have a PDF Site Addy that May Assist you Also. http://www.tecumsehpower.com/CustomerService/BSI.pdf  . I Suggest you Price the Crankshaft, Piston/Wrist Pin and Connecting Rod and a Short Block. If you Deside to Continue with this Repair, then Let me Know and I can Supply you with Any Assistance you May Require. Thanks.
