Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 265 john deere lawn mower, john deere lawn, loose ground

Question
I just finished cutting and when I flipped the switch to disengage the blades the engine quit and all the lights went off. When I tried to restart nothing happened. What could be the problem?

Answer
It could be that you have a loose ground wire on the clutch.  I would check the PTO switch.  This switch is more than likely a double pole double throw switch and when you unplug it from the system you will see four or more tabs.  All of them have to work.  Meaning that if you test the switch with the continuity meter both circuits will work together.  One is the clutch switch and one is tied into the safety system.  The next thing that could've happened is a fuse or seat switch.  With the engine just quitting and nothing happening when you turn the key voltage is not getting to the starter motor.  It may be just a loose wire or connector.  I hope I helped, good luck on your projet.
