Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JD 318 control module AM105170, amp fuse, fuse holder


Question
The 20 amp fuse got so hot it melted the plastic holder but did not blow the fuse. I replaced the fuse holder, condenser and coil. The engine (P218G)would start and run until you engage the PTO or move the fwd/rev lever. This opens the start circuit. I replaced the control module. eng ran normal about 5 min and same problem will not run with PTO or lever moved out of park. I can not aford another control module.Gen inop lit stays on also.

Have you checked the alternator regulator?  Is a wire shorted to ground?  Some component is drawing way too much current causing the fuse to blow.  A wire that has rubbed through the insulation and grounding to the metal frame will cause too much current draw.  Do yo have a multimeter?
