Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Chainsaw, exhaust port, connecting rod

Question
Hi i have a Remington Yard Master 1 chainsaw i plan to put on a scooter. Ive heard that by taking the muffler off of the saw i can get more power out of it, is this true? also i dont care about making alot of noise or seeing some sparks.

Answer
Hello Matt:

If the Exhaust Port and Muffler are Kept Clear of Carbon Blockage, then the Extra Power you will Gain is Not All that Great. If you Run a Small Engine without the Muffler; the Cold Air Rushes Into the Exhaust Port and Hits the Piston and Rings when you Shut Off the Engine. After a Few Times of this Happening; the Ring/s and/or the Connecting Rod Usually Crack or Break and then you have to Rebuild the Engine. That is if the Engine Block is Still Good. You Risk Throwing a Connecting Rod through the Block or having the Cylinder Gouged by a Cracked Ring. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
