Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): will crank but not fire, briggs and stratton, sectional index

Question
Hi.

I bought this rider off some guy who wired it himself. i had to redo most of it. One day it just quit on me. it will crank now, but will not fire. i  changed the switch, i believe this is where the problem is.  i by-passed all the seat and clutch switches.  i just need to know where to wire the armature/spark plug to.  it is to the "I" on my switch, "B" to the battery, and "Start" to my solenoid  but there is no power running through the wire to the armeture. the wire is new however  it cranks great but thats it. Did i wire this correctly????  Its a Briggs and Stratton Model 284707 type 1026-EI

Answer
Hello Don:

Sorry for the Delay. This Question was Located in the Question Pool and I can Only Answer Questions from the Question Pool when I am Not Answering Questions here or at the Other Site I Answer Questions at. The Armature-Magneto has NO HOT WIRE. The Armature-Magneto will Fire Anytime the Magnets on the Flywheel Pass the Armature-Magneto Pickup Unless it is Grounded on Both Sides of the Armature. The Armature-Magneto is Grounded on 1 Side when Mounted and the Other is Grounded with the Switch or at the Throttle Control Bracket (depends on the Make and Model of the Mower the Engine is Installed on). If this Unit was Starting and Stopping Properly and then Just Stopped Firing, then Remove the Ground Lead from the Armature-Magneto. Check for Fire. If the Plug Fires, then the Shut Off (Ground) Wire is Staying Grounded Somewhere in the Harness and this Ground Must be Located or Another Ground Wire can be Installed from the Ign Switch to the Armature-Magneto. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model (5 or 6 Digits) and Type Numbers (first 4 digits Only). Example: XXXXXX-XXXX. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Select Sectional Index. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. The Armature-Magneto is Approximately $35.00 to 45.00 Depending on the Retailer. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
