Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): homelite trimmer, adjustment screws, initial settings

Question
  Tom,
I have a Homelite Easy Reach model UT20044B.The problem is when I press the primer bulb it stays down for awhile, but eventually gets a little gas. When it starts, only runs in full choke, and with the throttle held wide open.I have replaced the fuel lines, along with the fuel filter. And tried cleaning the carb.I have tried blowing threw the top plate for the carb, seems very little air going threw.Does it sound like it may be in need of a rebuild. What are your thoughts? And thank you for your time.

Answer
yes, sounds as if a fuel path is obstructed. It should be disassembled, each jet, and path needs to have carb cleaner blown through it, and then compressed air, change all gaskets, and diaphragms. If you do it yourself, remember to screw any adjustment screws in just till they bottom out, not forcing them, and counting how many turns they go in before bottoming out, so you'll know your initial settings after. If you may forget how any linkages go back together take a digital picture first to aid you in reinstalling it.....Tom
