the lickage fell apart to make it go and a little spring is hanging out. is it possible to find out where it hooks to

Answer
The spring hooks to the carburetor butterfly shaft.  There are 2 carb shaft, choke and butterfly.  The choke shaft is used for cold starting, the other is the butterfly.

The spring should connect to the butterfly shaft.
