clutch is not functioning properly model is 917251472 belt slips off at times, used mower 42 inch cut no book on it on adjusting clutch or what is making it not push in

There are usually two things that cause our belt to keep coming off.  Missing or non-adjusted belt guides.  All belt guides have to be in place and with in 1/8 inch of the belt.  The other reason would be the corridors in the belt are broken.  This happens when a belt jumps off under tension.  Replace the belt.  If you have any electric clutch in more than likely is not adjustable.  If you have aim Canticle clutch look at the linkage underneath the tractor and you will find a threaded rod or a trunnion to adjust the clutch it all depends upon which one you have.  If mechanical adjusted so it just goes over center.  Hope this helps
