Pontiac Repair: 2002 GTP Grand Prix starting problem, fuse block, battery cables

Question
Hi Todd. So nice of you to do this service. I have a 2002 GTP Grand Prix 40th Anniversary Edition Supercharged. Recently I shut if off for a few minutes and when I tried to crank it again all electrical failed. I could'nt even get the key out of the ignition. I jiggled the battery cable and the lights came on but then died the same way when I turned the key. It would not take a jump enough to start it but I could get the windows up and key out. Left it there went to work. Came back, same thing. Put new battery in it. It was fine for 2 weeks. Then one morning, same thing, but when I jiggle the battery cable, I can hear the door chime and it will start. I had a Bonneville do the same thing. And it got worse. I sold that car. I love this car and I dont want to sell my problem to someone else. Please Help!!!

Answer
Hi Donna:

wee obviously you have some sort of a power or ground issue going on here. the fact that you jiggle the battery cables and it comes back to life I would suspect that you have a cable issue either the old battery leaked acid into the cables or you have a loose connetion at the body or engine for the ground cable or a issue with the power cable at the under hood fuse block. These older GP's had issue with the ignition switches and with the power feeds going though the fire wall under the glove box BUT the fact that you seem to be able to "fix" it at the battery I would look long and hard at the cables at under the hood then anything else at this point.  good luck :-)
