Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Zero turn mower selection, country clipper, parker drive

Question
I have decied on two zero turn mowers the first is the Counry Clipper  52" Model 2352KOJSR355 with Hydro gear ZT2800 transmission.  The other is a JD model Z445 54" with the Kansaki transmission and parker drive motors. I have used the Country Clipper and really like the joystick account of having a free hand around tree branches, etc, but will this single pump/moter setup hold up? or should I buy the John Deere, this mower is to keep for 15-20 years and only mow 1- 1-1/4 acres.

Answer
While I do like JD products, the Hydro gear drive train is more common and can be rebuilt at select locations across the country.

However, I do not see a lot of after market parts for Country Clipper and would be somewhat concerned with obtaining parts in the future.  JD has been around will be around for a long time so parts will be available but you usually have to go to JD for the parts and they can get pretty expensive.

What is the price difference between the two machines?

The Kawi engine is smoother than the Briggs but Briggs parts are more readily avaiable.

Are you comfortable with Country Clipper dealers in your area?

If were me, comparing the price difference, I would probalby go with the CC just because engine and trans parts are eaiser to find and there are more dealers.  Plus, the tranny has and external spin on filter so you can change the hydro fluid.

Difficult to recommend but I would recommend avoiding the Kohler engine.  Stick to Briggs or the Kawi.

The Briggs will last just as long as the Kawi if you change the oil and keep the air filter clean and serviced.  I have some customers with very large yards and they change their engine oil every time they mower, roughly every 30-40 hours.  There Briggs engines are over 20 years old and they run like new.

Hope this helps.
