Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Why is my Tecumseh 3.5 HP edger engine leaking gas through the air filter?, engine model type, adjustment screw

Question
"I bought this edger for $30 and I already cleaned out carb thoughly and I found the reason it was not running when I bought it was the fuel adjustment was closed so it wasn't getting any gas. So I opened the adjustment screw played with it a while and got it running which was great but when I turned the engine off it leaks gas out the front of the air filter. do i need a new Inlet Needle and Seat or what do you think? I have a diafram carb.

Answer
Sounds as if a carb rebuild is in your near future. You didn't furnish me with the engine model type, so I don't know which model carb it has. Either way, buy a kit, which should be pretty inexpensive, remove the carb, clean it well, and replace the diaphragm. Take things apart slowly, watching how everything goes. Place them on your work suraface in a order to help you remember which piece goes back in what order and direction. If you need to, take a picture, or draw a diagram of the linkages before you remove them to aid in helping you during installation.I believe that adjustment screw should be set at a initial setting of 1 turn out from seated position. .............Tom
