Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Generator wont start., briggs stratton, fuel pump

I have a Generac 5550 Generator with Briggs @ Stratton 19e400 engine.
With pending hurricane coming I pulled it out and tried to start it. It wouldn't start. I then changed the plug, gas and sprayed carb cleaner in carb. I then tried to start and it started but then quit.
When I continued to try to start it would stay running only as long as I sprayed starter fuel or cleaner into the carb and tehn would quit.

Sounds like the carb needs cleaned when generators sit for a while the fuel gets stale and gummy causing some blockage in the fuel ports. Remove carb and try cleaning also check the air fiter to make sure it is clean also. f that doesn't work try to check the fuel pump.
