Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ryobi gas trimmer, ryobi 825r, blue spark

Question
In have Ryobi 825R gas trimmer. The trimmer at first would start fine. After it was warmed up I would attempt to slowly accelerate the engine but it wouldn't allow me to and would stop running. Now its very hard to start and has the same performance after it does start unable to gain speed as it will quit running. Any ideas?

Answer
Make sure the spark arrest screen behind the muffler is clean, and not blocked, that's VERY common on 2strokes. If it is dirty clean it with some carb cleaner, and a soft wire brush. Make sure your plug is in good shape. Check your air filter. Make sure none of your gas lines are pinched. Confirm you have good fresh fuel in the tank. Confirm you have good spark by removing the plug grounding it to the block, and looking for a good blue spark across the electrode as you pull the cord. If none of these work, you'll need a carb cleaning, and rebuild. If you have a good spark ofcourse......Tom
