Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): craftsman wont start, compression stroke, lifetime warranty

Question
Hello David,
I have a 2005 craftsman 4000 series rider.
With a fully charged battery, clutch in, and sitting in the seat, I turn the key and the engine will turn until the compression stroke and just stop. Then nothing. No clicking of the solenoid just silence. On another note, as a new mower I could depress the clutch fully and it would start. Now the engine starts with the clutch out about 1/4 inch out. Could this be part of the problem or just normal wear?
Thanks Chris.

Answer
Chris,

Thats is normal wear But you can also readjust the clutch underneath and tighten it back down but i dont suggest doing that.
This is a Clutch saftey feature that normally requires a serviceman to adjust and reset It is never suggested to adjust this part yourself doing so will void the Craftsman lifetime warranty Call sears and ask if a Servicemant can come out and make this adjustment chances are sears will charge you for this But it beats you doing it incorrectly and have it cost more to fix something worse
