Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): my old ford riding lawnmower model 09JC3156, ford new holland, drive pulley

Question
i need to know how the wiring works at the  ignition because when i turn the ignition in the on position it will fire you don't have to turn the key to start to hit the starter and if you could find out any more info about the drive belt size that would be very helpful

Answer
Jay,

Normally the ignition wiring connects thru a Harness assy 2 grounds 1 hot lead to starter 1 hot lead to the Battery an 1 lead to fuse In this case if it is starting from first click none of this is connected properly and could cause a serious short in your wiring for this i would reccommend you obtain a Service manual for the model series tractor you own from a Ford-New Holland Ag/Home Dealer, And Belt sizes Vary from 25" to 60" But I will give you an easy way to detrmine size if you dont have a drive belt attached.
Take a measuring tape from the inside edge of the drive pulley and measure back to the outside edge of the drive control pulley your gonna get an Inch size for example (drive to drive 18" x 2 = 36" + 2" = 38")  the reason for the extra 2 " is for limited slip on the belt for clutch to drive engagement If your tractor lacks the tensioner pulley remove the 2" extra.
Most importantly Obtain the service maual for you model and make sure it is wired correctly otherwise eventually you will turn the key and nothing or wind up singing you Light up my life
