Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): older Stihl chainsaw wont start hot, gasket kit, chainsaw repair

Question
I have what the local chainsaw repair folks joke is a Stihl chainsaw older than most of the guys in the shop, but I like it and it has been reliable. It usually starts a little hard when cold, but then will restart easily for 6,8,10 times while I'm working. Doesn't idle well - it will stall out if left without a little throttle. But it reaches a point during the work where no amount of pulling will get it to start again without about an hour rest. Any suggestions for working around that problem?
And thanks! for volunteering to answer these questions.

Answer
I would start by cleaning the fuel system. Do not overlook the fuel cap vent and in-tank fuel filter.  I would replace all the fuel and primer lines.  The primer bulb if equipped too.  If that does not do it there is a small screen inside the carb that should be cleaned or just replaced.  You would get this with a complete carb kit not just a diaphragm and gasket kit.  When the carb is off replace the gaskets and inspect the insulator block.  That is the block between the carb and the cylinder. Check it for warpage. Hope this helps.
