Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 6hp briggs and stratton, briggs and stratton, long term storage

Question
This is on a pressure washer. Approx 5 yrs old, will not start after storage. No problems before, New sparkplug, I squirt starting fluid in carb, starts for a second then dies. Took carb off and cleaned it, no change. Has manual choke not primer bulb.

Answer
If the unit has been in storage with fuel and fuel tank thoroughly clean the inside of the fuel tank remove the gas shutoff lever cleaning also. Check to be sure there is no obstruction in the fuel line and you have good fuel flow.

If this does not fix it.  You will have to put a repair kit in the carburetor and be sure all passages are clean.  Pay special attention to the in let needle and seat that attached to the float.  If fuel is not getting into the engine there has to be a blockage someplace.

Even if fuel stabilizer, what is used to gas will still form varnish.  Stabilizer works for only a couple of months.  For long term storage, be sure to fuel system is drained completely.
