Steering Column Repair: 86 chev truck, tilt column, good luck

i have an 86 chev truck,automatic trans non-tilt column. when i turn the key 1 click, it shifts fine, but when i turn the key 1 more click and start it up; the shifter wont come out of park. how do i fix it?

gm ignition switch Hi Jim:

The locking mechanism for the shift bowl is the same rod that actuates the ignition switch near the base of the column.  You may have to readjust the switch so you accomplish both at the same spot when you rotate the key.  I am enclosing a picture of what the ignition switch looks like in case you;re not familiar with it.  You only have about 1/2 inch of adjustment so if that does not do it, then there is a problem internally in the column.
