Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Cub LT-1050 PTO clutch trouble???, auto parts store, diagnostic check

Question
David,
I have the above mentioned approx 3-4 years old, I have recently had trouble with the PTO not engaging or so the wife said, I checked connections last time and it has worked for a couple of months, not so lucky this time, I again have checked the switch, plug connections, and measured 14VDC on the plug with the wires going to the PTO clutch, the switch is working (dropping out the voltage),I hope you are not going to tell me "Need PTO"  thanks, Mike

Answer
Mike,

I wont tell you that, what is going on is the relay in the PTO is degrading  it does happen over time in a nutshell its not something you can repair on your own the Cub Cadet dealer has to do it because the inner workings are far too delicate for the novice to work with and the relay needs to be professionally installed.
Cause:
some where between the wires the plug uses and the PTO Engagement sensor the relay itself is losing signal your systems Monitor should have displayed this issue otherwise it could be that the leads are corroded and need a good cleaning try to clean the connectors as best you can they have a spray used for cleaning electrical connectors chances are your local Auto Parts store has this spray try cleaning the connectors If the Problem Persists take it to Cub cadet for a diagnostic check up
Solution
Give that cleaning a try  if it does not resolve the issue then I would suggest taking it in for a diagnostic on the sensors
