Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): No power to iginition, electric clutch, voltage spike

Question
I have a 22hp B and S.  It has an electric clutch for the mower deck.  The engine was at full throttle, but at a stand still when I engaged the mower deck.  The engine stalled and when i went to start it again.  There was no power to the ignition.  I checked the clutch, it was hot and was stuck closed.  I removed it, re-adjusted it and installed it, but still no power.  I can jump the solenoid and it will turn over.  What should i check for?

Answer
Check the fuses and quit jumping with a car.  You will damage the ignition and charging system.  The engine should start with the clutch out of the system or just unplugged.  When the clutch seized you had a voltage spike and probably damaged the system.  Check for rusty connections, melted coating on wires, broken grounds.  Check to see if the engine is free.  Will it turn over by hand?

More than likely the clutch is fried and causing the problems when it is plugged into the system.  If the engine starts with the clutch unplugged replace the clutch.  You may have spun the clutch on the crankshaft and pulled some wires apart.  Electrical issues can be fun.  Good luck.
