Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): craftsman trimmer starting and running issue, blue detergent, engine time

Question
For some reason I decided to play with one of my trimmers today. Craftsman 32 c.c. model number 358.791580 it will start after several pulls only while i am squeezing the throttle, at most i can get it to run 20 to 25 seconds then off it goes. i have disassembled the head. The muffler does not appear to be clogged and the carb looks ok. I figure i should go ahead and clean both while they are out. the plug has basically no engine time on it, due being replaced recently. is it possible that i have coil problem? or any other ideas. thanks in advance

Answer
It is possible that your coil is going bad even when you store it just right time and moisture does tend to kill a coil thats why when you buy a trimmer you use it on a regular basis to keep the moisture out of the system even during the winter months starting them regularly helps reduce your downtime.
If after you replace the coil and still no go occurs it may be time to take it into a small engine shop for a full tune up where they will replace what you have not replaced and will fine tune the fuel and air mix ratios something I dont suggest you attempt to do on your own they will also replace and clean the points
Another suggestion the shop could do fo you or you can try is this:
any small engine has 3 magnetic points on the flywheel most common weedeaters contain these where your pull starter is try removing the engine from the shaft and take a look at the magnets and the C-Coil If you have even the slightest bit of rust or contaminats that would cause it to lose connection then power stalling it out.
Using Steel wool Only no blue detergent wool pads rub the mag points going the same way the  flywheel turns and clean the metal back to a shiny look then do the same with the C-Coil this may solve your issue giving it more spark and fire.
Use a matchbook cover to put the C-Coil back into perfect spacing Make sure that it is slightly snug so you can move it in and out with a lil bit of resistance Otherwise Take it in for a Full service tune Up.
