Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): MTD riding tractor, clutch adjustment, brake rotor

Question
QUESTION: Whats wrong with the tractor when it rides smooth in reverse but when iam going foward it rides smooth for a little then it jumps? I have replaced the drive belt since it was cracked and spark plugs.

ANSWER: You have failed to furnish me with the required model, and type numbers required for me to answer this question. You have also given so little detail as I'm not sure if the condition is that of the engine not running correctly, or if it's a drive train problem....Tom

QUESTION: model # 13bk608g062
The tractor runs. It rides normal when it goes in reverse. When iam going forwards it seems to jump once in a while like if the belt is sleaping. I replaced both belts put new spark plugs but it still jumps.

Answer
I'm just confused as to why it occurs just once in awhile. My suggestion to you is checking the brake/clutch adjustment. Make sure the idler pulley has good tension on it, and is operating freely. Make sure the deck isn't obstructing the belt in any positions. And of course that the belt is routed correctly through the pulleys. Only thing then left is a fault in the trans axle, which MTD's have been know for in the past. Also make sure the linkage rod that changes the direction at the trans axle between forward, and reverse is adjusted correctly bringing it fully into the forward running position.......Tom
Just thought of something else, make sure the little brake pads on the side of the brake rotor at the trans axle aren't hanging up too, and are moving freely at all time when the brake is disengaged.
