Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): oil filled air filter, crankcase breather, honda gcv 160

Question
I JUST BOUGHT A Lawn-Boy Insight Platinum 10795 ,Honda GCV 160 engine Lawn mower ,a month ago and every couple of times i mow,the air filter clogs up with oil,I am a woman and took the mower to ONE OF LAWN BOYS  AUTHORIZED DEALERS, and they were very rude to me ,wouldn't even look at it,told me to take where i bought it. can you please help me,what is wrong with it.

Answer
Are you tipping the mower over to clean under the housing or sharpen the blade or clear debris?

If you tip the mower be sure you tip it with the carburetor up. With the carburetor down oil runs from the crankcase into the air filter.

If that is not it, do you mow a steep hill?  If you are mowing a very steep hill from side to side be sure to mow with the carburetor up hill.

If it is none of these then you have positive pressure in the crankcase.  That comes from an air leak in the crankcase.  The likely places, an air leak will occur is in the crankshaft seals.  You have one on the top and one on the bottom.  The crankcase breather been plugged not allowing the crankcase ventilate.  Also check where the dipstick goes into the dipstick to and where the dipstick to goes into the crankcase there should be no oil leaking from those areas.  Lastly, look at the separation line between the crankcase halves.  There should be no oil coming out were the gasket is.  If there is a new gasket would have to be installed.

If you are not getting cooperation from a dealer.  The best thing to do is call Lawn Boy direct or contact them at www.lawnboy.com.  I hope this helps
