Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): armature/coil assembly settings, briggs stratton, hp briggs

14.5 HP Briggs & Stratton mower engine, can you supply the correct setting on how far back from the fly wheel the armature/coil assembly should be? Our books are too vague, saying 6000 up to 12000, to be of any help. I appreciate any help you can give us to getting our mower back to "duty" Thanks again.

If you would have old piece of film from a camera that would be perfect.  If you don't, you could use a picture or paper you would print a picture.  If you want to measure it it would be 0.010
to 0.012".  If you have none of those try the thickness of a business card.

The best way to adjust to this is to put the film on the flywheel magnet and let the magnet draw the coil to it and then torque down the bolt's.  I hope this helps.
