Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): smoking engine, briggs stratton engine, briggs stratton

Question
I have a Simplicity Regent 20 HP lawn tractor Mfg. #2690573.  It has a V-twin extended life Briggs & Stratton engine.  I currently have less than 10 hours on the tractor. The third time I went to use it, it smoked (blue)when I started it.  Since then, it smokes everytime I start it.  It doesn't appear to be losing any oil and it doesn't smoke after the initial smoking at start up.  If I shut it off and immediately restart it, it doesn't smoke.  I tried starting it after it sat for 3 days and I didn't notice any smoke but it's possible it smoked slightly and I just didn't see it.  If it sits a week, which is normally how often I mow my lawn, it smokes.  It seems to be getting progressively worse. It's not just a little "puff" of smoke.  It smokes for several seconds and the smoke lingers in the air for about 8 seconds.  I'd appreciate any advice you can give me.  I called the dealer and he said it's normal to have a little smoke, but this is not a "little smoke".  There is a slight incline when entering my garage. Could this be causing the problem?  The tractor is running for awhile after I enter the garage so if any oil was getting in the cylinder because of the incline, wouldn't it burn off by the time I turned it off?  The dealer also said it could be a carburetor adjustment but if that's the case, wouldn't the smoke be black and smoke all the time, not just at start up?  Sorry this is long but I want to give you all the details.  Thank you very much.

Answer
Hello Carl:

Thanks for the Detailed Explanaition of your Problem. The Better the Explanation the Better I can Understand what is Happening and Hopefully Instruct you in Making the Correct Repair.  You can View a Breakdown of this Unit at this Site Addy; http://www.simplicitytechpubs.com/techpubsearch.php?f_dsprslt=true&f_mfgno=16948... and Enter the Manufacturers Numbers in the Search Box at the Lower Left Side of the Page and CLick Search. Now Select "View PDF" for the "Parts Manual - Regent / 500/ 2500 Series Lawn Tractor." Black Smoke is a Gas Smoke, Blue Smoke is an Oil Smoke and White Smoke is Gas and Oil Mixed Smoke. After View the Breakdown and From your Description it Sounds like you have an Engine that is KNOWN for having a Smoking Problem when they First Start Up. I have Several Customers that have the Same Engine and Problem. I Suggest you Check the Carburetor Solenoid. Usually the Black Smoke During Start Up is Due to the Carburetor Solenoid Not Shutting Off the Gas Flow to the Carburetor Jet Properly and Allowing the Engine to Flood Slightly and this Slight Flooding Causes the Black Smoke. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine at this Site Addy; http://www.briggsandstratton.com/maint_repair/manual_and_more/doclist.aspx?categ... and Enter the Model Numbers (40G777) and the First 4 Type Numbers (0400) in the Appropriate Boxes and Click GO. Then Select Download PDF. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
