Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): NEED A DIAGRAM FOR BELT REPLACEMENT, double pulley, drive pulley

Question
I HAVE A hydro matic White GT-185 OHV model # 1446836H190.My problem is I don't know how the tension springs go on the deck portion after replaceing the belts.

Answer
The owners manual is the best place to look.  Be sure to check on line to at their web site.

There are some rules to follow.
1. if the idler pulley is flat it rides on the outside of the belt.  If the idler is a V it rides on the inside of the belt.  This is true unless you have a belt that is not flat on one side and V on the other.  The spring would hook the the idler pulley are and then to the tractor frame or the deck.  The spring would pull the idler into the belt. If you have two belts on the deck the bottom one is always under tension.  If there is an electric the belt from to clutch to the top groove on the drive pulley is under constant tension.  Same rules flat idler to V idler. If there is one long belt the same is true. Just you may not have a double pulley on the deck. The belt tension pulley takes the shock when the pto is engaged. It will move with the belt.

Look at the way the engine turns. The belt coming from the engine to the deck will turn the blades on the deck counter clockwise. Don't forget the belt guides they should be tight enough to keep the belt on the pulley bit not touch the belt when it is under tension. Guides are very important be sure all are installed no matter how usless they may seem.
