Land Rover Repair: 1999 4.0 range rover dies driving down the highway...as if out of gas, fuel filter, range rover

Question
My 99 range rover first died with what looked like 1/4 tank
of gas about 3 months ago.  I assumed gauge was wrong.
Since, it has become more prevalent and unpredictable.
Last week, I replaced fuel filter, thinking clogged.
Seemed to fix the problem, as it only died once during 40
mile drive to work.  But, driving home, did not make it.
Cruising on freeway, just dies as if out of gas...wait 10
minutes and it restarts.  This time, however, died
completely.  Every fault possible showed on dash when I
tried to restart it, and battery died totally.  I went back
to vehicle couple days later, and replaced battery, but
still would not drive all the way home.  Got about 10
miles, then started stalling again.  Would only go a few
hundred yards after re-starting.  It acts like it is out of
gas, or just can't get any.  HELP ME PLEASE.  I live in CO
Mountains and we are getting lots of snow.

Answer
Somehow, you need to check to see if the fuel pump is running when the truck dies, and if you have fuel pressure.  If you have power to the pump and no pressure, change the pump.

But I don't think I'd just change the pump without testing as it's a $450 part and a costly guess if wrong.
