Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Mower wont stay running, briggs and stratton, question pool

Question
Hi Scott,
I have 2 mowers with the same motor and they are both doing exactly the same thing. When I prime them or pour gas in the carb they start then die. I cleaned the carbs (even stuck pieces of wire down all the holes to make sure they were clear). Still the same thing happens. Sounds like dirty carbs right? But if I put my fingers over the air intake part of the carb, creating more suction, then they run. I am stumped. The motors are Briggs and Stratton 4hp model# 10A902, Type 2291B1. Thank you so much for your help.

Answer
Hello Ronnie:

Sorry for the Delay. This Question was Located in the Question Pool. Even Running a Wire through the Carburetor May Not Clean it. If you have Cleaned it, Replaced the Parts/Gaskets and the Engine Still Performs as you Described, then Check the Intake Tube. Make Sure it is Tight at the Engine Block and the Engine Block Gasket is Good. If this is Tight and the Gasket is Good, then the Cause of this Problem will be 1 of the Following; 1- the Compression is Low or, 2- the Carburetor Requires Replacing. These Carburetor have No Adjustments and if they are Soaked, Cleaned Correctly and Parts/Gaskets Replaced as Required and the Other Components I Listed Above (intake tube and compression) are OK, and the Engine Still Starts and Run as you Described, then Replace the Carburetor. The Carburetor is ONLY $19.95us Plus Shipping Online. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
