Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman 2, 12HP Briggs & Stratton 38 in cut, engine model type, briggs stratton

Question
I have an older Craftsman 2 riding lawn mower.  It has been sitting up for a couple of years.  For one where is the best place to get parts, like a carb rebuild kit?  Also, the back tires won't roll, even with the clutch pushed in or in Neutral.  One tire rolls forward and one backwards.  How do I fix this?

Any help would be appreciated.  I am not a mechanic, just some one who like to dabble.

Thanks in advance- Rick

Answer
Any Briggs dealer should have the carb kit on hand.  Provide them your engine model, type and code number located on the engine and they can provide parts.

Can you move the transmission shift lever as if you are shifting gears?  The brake could have stuck.  If you look on the transmission you will see a small brake disc.  There will be an adjustment nut.  Back the nut out two to three turns.

If you get the engine running the transmission may free itself.

Let me know if you have any trouble getting parts.
